@sweynh tweets: #StupidElectronicSigns don't just exist in #Orkney . This at #Waverly Maybe I'll start an error msg gallery!

It is possible to customize the client-side error messages displayed by Firefox. If I were in the electronic sign business, and my signs required connecting to remote servers for content displayed by Firefox, I think I'd consider customizing the error pages.

Welcome, please choose your access...
Hotel Internet, oh how I love thee. Let me count the ways.
1) I love that you give me the option to choose between standard access and ... well nothing.
2) I love that you require I get an access code from the front desk. I wanted to talk to the desk clerk again. Now, what was my room number?
3) I love that you give me the option to upgrade to faster standard access... for an undisclosed additional fee.
4) I love that you require I read a long legal document through a tiny window, 3.9 lines at a time.
5) I love that using free Internet requires I make a $0 purchase via PayPal.
6) I love that once I purchase my free Internet, you give me another opportunity to enter the access code and room number... Plus, I jump at another opportunity to read the terms of service through a tiny window pane.
7) I love your helpful error messages and the lack of Internet access after I've performed so many tricks for you.
8) And most of all, I love that I have to call your wonderful technical support people and explain all that I've already done for you... and then do it again while they listen to me gripe about it on the phone.
Now, I just wish I could remember what it was I wanted to do on the Internet.

WARNING: Credit Card
I get the above making my second online payment, for a second account, to a healthcare provider today. While I like the warning that I've already paid them today with the same card, why does it ask if I want to process a payment for the amount of 0.00?
I click the Yes button and get the following:
That's not $0.00.

Certain information
I try to reset the password for a local Windows Server account and get the following warning dialog.
It warns that resetting the password might cause IRREVERSIBLE LOSS of "certain information". If the information that will be lost is certain, why doesn't this warning tell me what information will be lost and what won't be lost?
And what is this stuff about a disk? Who creates password reset disks for every user of a server? I haven't. Should I?
Wanting additional information, I click the Help button. This opens a local help document that explains what data will no longer be acceptable. However, even this refers to "some types of information" and gives an "including" list. It doesn't give a full inclusive list. Or if this list is inclusive, that isn't clear from the help document.
If you are going to tell me that my actions might cause damage to "certain information", please have the courtesy to give me sufficient details to make an informed decision.

As Error Messages go, this is not helpful to me. - @quixote171

A title and error description that is unreadable. Directions to press keys and do things that aren't options on the dialog. Goofy parenthesis placement.
What does it mean to "go back"? What are the consequences of manual processing? Press DEL or ESC after or instead of pressing the OK button?

ActiveSink
ActiveSync is failing to successfully synchronize my Windows Mobile phone with my computer more often than it works. Thinking something might have gotten corrupted on the computer, I try to reinstall ActiveSync.

The install encounters an Internal Error. Error 2356, to be exact. I have no idea what this means. I click the OK button.

Oh, a fatal error. Who, or what, died as a result of this error?
Later after a system reboot and reinstall, I connect my phone. My computer seems to hang; then eventually displays a new error dialog. This time it wasn't an internal error. This time the problem occurred on the desktop. What desktop? My computer's desktop? Does it detect that my notebook computer is sitting on a desktop? ;-)

This time I get a support code number instead of an error number. I open up my browser and search the Internet and Microsoft support for more information. Numerous reasons for this error are listed.
No information is given to help resolve the issue. So I click OK, kill the ActiveSync processes, and reconnect my phone.
Synchronization Error 85010014
ActiveSync reports a Synchronization Error code 85010014 because of one of the following reasons:
- Synchronization Fails because Application Data Folder is Redirected
- Synchronization Fails because Outlook is in Offline Mode
- Synchronization Fails because of Outlook script blocking
- Synchronization Fails because ActiveSync is incorrectly registered with Outlook
This time it says it is synchronizing but just hangs with no status updates.
Eventually, I get an error dialog -- showing my favorite support code.
I click the OK button even though I am far from okay with this experience. I get a new error message -- this time stating that the just-in-time debugger failed because the debugger is not enabled. I don't think I even have Visual Studio installed on this computer.
Check the documentation? What documentation?
Maybe I should check the sales documentation for other Phone/PDA options...

Wait...
"Dear Microsoft: A 'Wait' button? Seriously? A BUTTON? Seriously???" - @solomania
Does it go faster if the user doesn't click the Wait... button?
