Can't open Sykpe

I am not already signed in on this computer. I cannot sign out when I not already signed in on this computer.

I had to restart Skype several times before I could successfully sign in. :(

After logging into the HP Home & Home Office Store, don't click on the plus sign on the step showing that you are logged in. If you do, it will log you out.

However, it will kindly inform you that you have an account with them. And for security reasons, they will display your email address twice within the same box.

Interesting feature. Typically, clicking a plus sign in a GUI gives you more information, not less.

Sign Out, Sign Up, Sign In

Apparently (or not so apparently), being signed into Yahoo! does not sign one into Yahoo! Groups. (It used to.) This page displays the header Yahoo! sites display when I am logged-in. It greets me by name. It even offers a "Sign Out" option. However, it doesn't display the list of my Yahoo! Groups. To view my groups, I have to sign in again.

Sign in again too soon

I get the following in response to logging into the HP software support site.

I last signed in about 24 hours ago. Is signing in the next day too soon? If so, how long should I wait?

Or is this trying to tell me that a browser cookie issue may be forcing me to sign in again too soon?

This is a fairly useless error message. I refreshed the page and my post sign-in destination page is displayed.

My session on DirecTV.com timed out and I was redirected to the page shown above. While I find no problem with being timed out due to inactivity, there are a number of strange things on the timeout page.

If I was timed out, why I given an option to say I don't have a password? And why is there a link to instructions for created an account? Likely reusing a generic sign in page.

Then, the Helpful Hints on the right state that I need an account to create an account. Using the same word, account, to describe two different things in the same sentence isn't a great example of clarity.

So what is the Error?

It is generally a good idea not to disclose information that could help someone gain unauthorized access to your system, but a bit more information than this could help real customers.

What do you want me to do?

I got this error trying to sign into a web site. I had last signed into the web site about 17 hours prior to getting this error message. What is this message telling me?

Is it saying that I signed in too soon? If so, how much longer than 17 hours do I have to wait?

Is it saying that my browser can have cookie issues that are capable of forcing me to do things too soon?

Is it saying my browser is doing things on its own because of cookie issues?

Or maybe this message is telling me what to do.

Is it saying that I should sign in again too soon? If so, how soon is too soon. And if it is too soon, why should I do it?

Seriously, I doubt this message is at all related to the actual problem. The message makes no sense. This is the kind of message that makes we wonder why some coder spent time entering the error message text into a computer.

And now I'm cringing at the thought that I may have -- sometime in the distant past -- written error messages that are just as confusing.

Pressing the back button and resubmitting the login resulted in the same error. However, I then closed the browser tab and re-clicked the link that led me to login to the site. This time I was not prompted to login. I was sent directly to the destination page that requires user authentication.

It appears my browser had the appropriate session cookies.

Security Vulnerabilities

1. Injection Injection: Injection flaws occur when untrusted data is sent to an interpreter as part of a command. The attacker’s hostile data can trick the interpreter into executing unintended commands or accessing data without authorization.

2. Broken authentication and session management Broken authentication and session management: Application functions related to authentication and session management are often not implemented correctly, allowing attackers to compromise passwords, keys, or session tokens, or to exploit other implementation flaws to assume other users’ identities.

3. Cross-Site Scripting Cross-Site Scripting (XSS): XSS flaws occur whenever an application takes untrusted data and sends it to a web browser without proper validation or escaping. Security Misconfiguration Security Misconfiguration: Good security requires having a secure configuration defined and deployed for the application, frameworks, application server, web server, database server, and platform. 6. Sensitive Data Exposure Sensitive Data Exposure: Many web applications do not properly protect sensitive data, such as credit cards, tax IDs, and authentication credentials. Attackers may steal or modify such weakly protected data to conduct credit card fraud, identity theft, or other crimes. Sensitive data deserves extra protection such as encryption at rest or in transit, as well as special precautions when exchanged with the browser.

7. Missing Function Level Access Control Missing Function Level Access Control: Most web applications verify function level access rights before making that functionality visible in the UI. However, applications need to perform the same access control checks on the server when each function is accessed. If requests are not verified, attackers will be able to forge requests in order to access functionality without proper authorization.

8. Cross-Site Request Forgery Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF): A CSRF attack forces a logged-on victim’s browser to send a forged HTTP request, including the victim’s session cookie and any other automatically included authentication information, to a vulnerable web application. This allows the attacker to force the victim’s browser to generate requests the vulnerable application thinks are legitimate requests from the victim.

9. Using Components with Known Vulnerabilities Using Components with Known Vulnerabilities: Running software components with known vulnerabilities can compromise the vulnerable components and anything those components can access -- undermining defenses.

10. Unvalidated Redirects and Forwards Unvalidated Redirects and Forwards: Using untrusted data, without validation, to determine the destination of redirects and forwards can enable attackers to redirect victims to phisihing or malware sites.
